Care Packages for the Troops

We are having a high school senior, Sierra Turner, coming to talk about care packages for the troops on Friday, (4/20/12). She said that if anybody had addresses for troops stationed overseas she would love to add the addresses to her project. Just send me an e-mail with their addresses on it and I wil pass it on to her. Thanks! hlarsen@msd134.org

March

We have a lot of things coming up in March that I would like you to be aware of. First of all, our lovely student teacher is taking over full time for the whole month of March and into April. She has been great to work with so far and the kids really like her.

The end of the quarter is March 9th so that is the last day for kids to work on their reading goals. Don't forget, they can take tests at home on the computer.

Parent Teacher conferences are coming up on the evenings of March 13 and March 15. I would like to start with an Open House on March 13 where the students can lead their own parent teacher conference. Miss Sciales and I will be there to help where possible. If you or I feel that we need a more in depth one on one session, you can sign up for a time on Thursday the 15th. I would think that most parents stay pretty well informed if they are checking reading goals on Renaissance Place, checking grades in Skyward Parent Access, and calling or e-mailing as questions arise. Those parents will probably be comfortable with the more relaxed Open House type Parent Teacher conference. The parents who have concerns about retention, or special education, or what they can do over the summer might appreciate a more formal setting. It is really up to the parent. I will send a letter home soon to make appointments.

Boise Art Museum will be visiting on March 14th. They do an amazing program at schools where they can bring the art world to life in the classroom for kids who don't get to go all the way to Boise to visit the museum. We will be doing a fun project that connects to Idaho History. I can't wait to see what these kids are able to create!

Spring Break is coming up starting March 23rd. I hope you all have fun plans for adventures during this time. I'm sure I'll come up with something wonderful!

I think that's it for now, have a great day!

Valentine's party

This letter is going home this afternoon:

Valentine’s Day is upon us. Our party will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 from 2:00 to end of school. To reduce the risk of hurt feelings, if your child is going to give Valentine card to anyone, they should give one to everyone. Here is the class list.

Girls- 10 Boys-16
Kaitlynn Ivan
Gillian William
Erica Jack
Braelen Chase
Aubrey Casey
Hailei CJ
Isabel Aiden
Lakeisha Josh
Feola Rick
Samantha Zack
Tyler
Charles
Jetty
Colton
Carson
Tucker
If you would like to help out our party by bringing treats or attending, please sign below, detach and send back to school. We will probably make a craft and decorate a cookie instead of having tons of cupcakes, cookies, and candies. In the past we had a good idea about the parents getting together and making a goodie bag for the kids to take home. Once again, thank you for all that you do! My parents are the best!
Thanks,
Miss Larsen

Idaho History Music Program

I look forward to seeing you at the Mill Creek 4th Grade Idaho History Program next Monday night, January 30th, at 6:30 p.m. in the new auditorium at the Middleton High School. Doors will open at 6:00. Students need to be in the music room by 6:15. Parents should go straight to the auditorium. Students should wear nice jeans and a plain shirt (no writing) that is either red, or white, or blue. These 4th graders have learned so much about Idaho! I hope you can come to support your student and appreciate all their hard work. See you next Monday!

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school! A few new changes for everyone to be aware of:

  • Jack is back! Jack was gone for a few months and has come back to us safe and sound, so our class number is back up to 26 and we are a whole class once again!

  • Our class has been chosen for a very special opportunity - having a student teacher! Miss Maggie Sciales (pronounced ski alice) comes to us from Boise State University and will be with us all semester. She will graduate with her teaching degree this spring. She is excited to be with us and the kids are equally excited to have two teachers to love and adore them.

  • New schoolwide expectations will be rolled out next week. There will be an assembly next Thursday to explain the new expectations for the students.

That's all for now - have a great weekend!

Christmas Party!

Our Christmas Party will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 from 12:45-1:45. Each student needs to bring a wrapped dollar store gift that would be appropriate for a girl or a boy. We will then be able to play a gift exchange game and everyone will end up with a prize! We will also need treats and volunteers to be here. Please let me know in advance if you want to bring something or if you want to be here. The kids really enjoyed decorating a cookie last time so we could do that again to. I really appreciate all of your support.

P.S. I know in these economic times it may be difficult to provide a wrapped gift - please let me know as soon as possible so that I can find another way for your child to have a gift. If you wait until the last minute to inform me, I won't be able to help out and they may not get to participate.

Christmas Food Drive

Every year our school likes to donate "kid friendly" food items to the Middleton Food Bank. This year we are focusing on Peanut Butter, Jelly (not homemade), and Cereal. Of course, you are also welcome to donate any other non perishable items as well. These donated items go to helping our community's families. Send items to school this week and next. Thanks in advance for your donations!
